J. Smith, Manager
The Theatre Royal is a busy theatre in the heart of Winchester city centre. It stands out as one of the land marks of the city due to its listed building status.

This extensive refurbishment and decoration project transformed the Theatre Royal. The listed building required internal and external decoration as well as changes to its office and auditorium areas.

The outside of the theatre was renovated carefully to match the existing original lime based paints using a specialist paint and repair system (Keme) and specialist moulded soffits were manufactured and fitted. All works were undertaken in close liaison with Hampshire County Councils heritage experts to ensure the works restored the theatre to its correct manner in line with its status as a listed historical building.

Internally a new fully fitted kitchen was installed into the basement of the building and refurbishment of the changing rooms, toilets, offices and auditorium was undertaken.

A particular challenge to this project was the short time frame that the works were required to take place in due to show start dates and the presence of the youth theatre. This was achieved by working closely and flexibly with the management of the theatre to enable business to continue as much as possible during the works without compromising health and safety.
